What is Test and Tagging?
Test and tagging is a generic name given to the process of visually and electronically test appliances that are in use around the workplace. It can also be referred to as: tagging, test & tag, test tag, electrical appliance testing, electrical testing, portable appliance test or lead testing.
Test and tag is a way of minimising electrical risks to people in your workplace, it is a process of inspecting, electronically test, tag (labelling) and logging all electrical appliances. It is a way of documenting your electrical safety systems for your workplace Risk Assessment.
In simple words, test and tag is a process of visually inspecting each appliance for damage to connections, flex, covers, plugs and guards by an experienced technician. Once the technician assure all the electronic items are safe, they will be insulated, earthed and tested to ensure it is electrically safe.

Why is Test and Tagging important in your Workplace?
Our team of experts, test and tag all your equipment to determine whether it is in the best condition and will not harm you and your employees. If we find the equipment is not in a good condition, we remove it from the workplace so that your workplace is safe. By testing your tools, leads and appliances on a regular basis it will lead to reduce risk in electrical injuries and death. You must get your equipment checked up regularly to prevent any injuries, or worse, fatal conditions for your employees or clients at your workplace.
Some techniques that can be undertaken to test electrical equipment is as follows:
- The batteries of all appliances should be regularly checked so as to ensure no loss of electrical supply is there.
- To ensure no breakage of electrical cables is there.
- Providing proper electrical earthing in all sockets.
- Providing proper insulating materials as the base of all appliances so as to minimise the risk of electrical shocks.
Further to provide safety of all humans, all electrical appliances should be properly tested before use. Along with electrical tagging and electrical testing, all the safety measures should also be kept in mind before using electricity. For example, one should never use electrical appliance bare footed or with wet hands. Appliance testing should be done properly so as to ensure personal safety.
Occupational health and safety (OHS) refers to the legislation, policies, procedures and activities that aim to protect the health, safety and welfare of all people in the workplace. Every worker has a right to healthy and safe work and a work environment that enables them to live a socially and economically productive life.
